A devoted doctor helps couples who find themselves desperate for a baby.

The Wait 2021 Film Review:

Yemi Mafarah did a phenomenal job tackling this sensitive topic with compassion and insight in a region where so much emphasis is placed on childbearing as synonymous with womanhood. The themes resonated with me deeply. This is such a significant topic. I am American. My husband is Nigerian. We had our daughter after 9 years of marriage. The various perspectives offered were so reflective of what I have seen in our our own lives from families as well as well intentioned friends. I enjoyed looking at the artwork in almost every scene as much as I enjoyed the movie. The cinematography, fashion, and interior design added so much as well.

What prevented The Wait from having a 5-star rating was the technicality. It was regrettably a big sabotage: -Sound engineering was weakly executed, consequently impairing the flow of the movie. -The camera was filming from the wrong angles and wasn’t enriching the narrative -The editor rapidly cut lots of scenes & music and even went as far as to include sound effects that were irrelevant to certain scenes. Why did we hear a sexual moaning sound at the start of the party scene at the end? -The concluding part appeared rushed, it wasn’t clear how Tosan and her husband ended up the way they did. Who exactly was the young pregnant woman meeting Nkechi in different places? Some of these elements could have been better elaborated for a complete understanding.
