Review of Evil Dead Rise (2023 Film):

When I saw Evil Dead 2013 on opening day in theaters, I was completely taken aback. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first two, but the third one impressed me so much that I saw it multiple times in theaters. Obviously I was exceptionally captivated at what this decade after the fact film could offer. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to an advanced screening in my city.

People clearly flock to this franchise for the horrific brutality. Perhaps to some degree a weird dim satire a piece too. This movie tries to market a well-known franchise to younger viewers, to some extent to its detriment. It occasionally deviates from the rather straightforward plot of previous possession films. while still delivering sequences that were shocking and disgusting.

The film, in my opinion, is really held up by a great combination of CGI and real-world effects still being used. The sound effects are also excellent. Sadly, I cannot say that I enjoyed the cast or the characters they played. Due to the mediocre acting and trite writing, it sometimes felt more like a Netflix horror film. There are a few minutes that I can’t completely accept that we’re even placed in an underhanded dead film . This is where a couple of times I was disappointed. I understand the attempt to relate to a younger generation, but it was excessive.

In general, this movie contains blood and scares, which is ultimately what audiences are there for. I just can’t help but think that the film has drastically decreased in quality since 2013. It’s a must-see for fans of the franchise, but I’m sure there will be mixed reactions.
